Hmmmm.... so do I laugh or cry? About 10 days ago the property tax bill arrived -- always such a joyous occasion anyway. This year's edition announced that our house had lost fully 1/3 of its value (or at least what we paid for it 2006). And frankly, when Kern county is willing to admit that -- you know it's true. Not exactly unexpected. But wait, it gets better. This week an updated edition arrived with a correction. No, in fact, hearth and home has not lost 1/3 of what we paid for it -- really, it's much closer to 1/2. The good news of course is that our tax bill is $1,000 lower as a result of this error being corrected and that truly does make me happy. I just wish that happiness weren't tinged with the knowledge that we're now upside down by about the same amount we had in equity when we purchased this place. Ouch!
